I would also agree with “Boston Attorney” that SERPS do recognize the description, and yes, it all matters. That’s the real “trick” -everything counts, and to maintain top rankings you need to regularly develop those assets on and off site.

You have some good points here that I am sure new webmasters will be able to follow and learn from. Also don’t worry too much about trolls, everyone has thier own way of doing things, just because someone doesn’t agree, dosen’t make it wrong.

On page SEO is still important. I think people, particularly new people have a difficult time choosing the “right” keywords. More info on keyword selection would be helpful.

It is my contention that search engines will be moving away from the keywords meta tag, making it obsolete. I believe google has already begun this process in an effort to eliminate spam and retrieve relevant SERPS for their customers. Other search engines will soon follow this tactic.
