I agree that not enough attention is paid to the layout out text throughout the majority of standard websites. This has been an issue for a long time, the main reason is that regulary viewed websites are business websites, and as such businesses feel they must portray a professional image. It is considered that professional is simple, standard and common, the result of which is an overwhelming number of websites following the same suit.

There is, however, light over the hill. Large organisations are starting to recognise the benefits of visually appealing websites and are not exercising new possibilities, allowing for better presented and more colourful websites.

We are far from what is possible on the Internet, but those who stand out now will reap the benefits of the future of the Internet.

Nice post, I haven’t really thought about styling paragraphs that much apart from an increased line-height and maybe a decreased letter-spacing. I like the examples with the lined paper background image, it wouldn’t work on all sites though.

The sky’s the limit it seeems when trying to design a attractive site. There are almost too many choices….makes it tougher! I just tend to use the two or three most common fonts not knowing what browser a reader may be using.
